Welcome
Charter Veterinary Surgeons was founded in Congleton by Frank Sims back in 1958. In 1962 Frank and his partner Edgar Hockenhull purchased a practice in Newcastle-Under-Lyme which was originally established in 1812 by Thomas Mayer. Mayer and his son, Thomas Walton Mayer, were responsible for petitioning the Privy Council to obtain the Charter of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in March 1844. This created a profession out of a what had been a trade and restricted the title 'Veterinary Surgeon' to qualified practitioners. When Frank retired in 1994 a change of name was required and it was decided to call the practice Charter Veterinary Surgeons, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the granting of the Charter. The practice today consists of 5 branches covering South Cheshire and North Staffordshire. 13 vets and 28 support staff work within the practice. Our aim is to provide first class care and advice for the full range of companion animals, farm animals and horses. We aim to do this in a friendly and courteous environment and at realistic prices.
